Company Background

Composites USA has been in existence since 1982, when the company was started in Wilmington, DE. In 1986 the company was relocated to larger facilities in Bear, DE. In 1996 we relocated to MD, into a facility three times the size of the Bear plant. In 2002, we opened our Phoenix, AZ facility.

In 1994 we purchased the equipment and files of Jones & Hunt, and hired some of their key employees, effectively extending our experience base back into the 1950's.

Composites USA offers extensive fiberglass and lined stainless steel design, fabrication, test and installation services. We have a successful track record in tackling difficult jobs for a world class clientele, including industry leaders Analog Devices, Ciba Geigy, DuPont, Eli Lilly, Formosa Plastics, Honeywell, Hynix (Hyundai) Semi-conductor, Lonza Pharmaceutical, Merck, Monsanto, Occidental, Smith Kline, and the U.S. Government.

We have also provided OEM equipment for some of the most respected names in the corrosion equipment field, including AirPol, Bayliss Technologies, Ceco, Ceilcote, Edlon, EST, Graver Water, Karbate-Vicarb, Koch Engineering, Metaullics, Permuttit/ U.S. Filters, Swemco, Wallace & Tiernan, Warren Pumps and others. Our equipment is currently installed on six continents.

The Composites USA staff consists of full time chemical and mechanical engineers, including licensed P.E.'s. Our product design starts with a structural and laminate review of wall thickness, reinforcement types and orientations, and continues through to finite element analysis, if required.

We work with all major resin systems including premium grade vinyl esters, polyesters, epoxies, phenolics and furans, so we can fine-tune the resin system to the corrosion requirements. Dual laminate construction with thermoplastic liners is available for applications too aggressive for thermosets and ceramic filled liners are available for highly abrasive systems. Fluoropolymer lined stainless steel systems can be provided for applications with elevated temperatures.

Standard reinforcements include corrosion grades of fiberglass, or higher strength glasses and aramids (S-glass and Kevlar) for special applications as well as electrically conductive graphite veils, or extremely corrosion resistant Halar veils.

Our extensive tooling capabilities allow custom manufacturing of pipe, duct and equipment to address our customers’ unique needs. From conductive, abrasion resistant, or U.L. Listed & Factory Mutual Approved duct systems in custom geometries and configurations; for tanks (full vacuum, stirred reactor, heated or cooled, ASME RTP-1 design) to columns (absorbers, air strippers, scrubbers) and stacks, to gravity separators or belt filters, pipe and dual containment systems, we can handle most requirements with either hand laid or filament wound construction - with RTM available for multiple part applications.

Our in house test capabilities includes ASTM tensile, flex, hardness, percent reinforcement, resistivity and others. The physical plant is 50,000 ft2 in MD and 30,000 ft2 in AZ.
